Dear Lord Jesus Christ,
You wanted all who are weary
To come to You for support.
Lord, I am worn out
By my inability to find work.
Since our founding in 1918, the Society has published a magazine, first under the title of The Far East, while it is now known as Columban Mission. Throughout the years, these pages have detailed the lives of Columban missionaries living and working around the world and have noted extraordinary changes in our world over 100 years.
I Columban
Born and bred
Among the soft roll of hills
in the pasture land of Leinster.
Playing, working, praying in praise
walking the fi elds of Creation.
Saturated in beauty of mount and vale
hearkening to animal call and birdsong
learning the human endeavor
of ploughing the furrow and seeding
attuned to the call of the Cosmos.
"You are mad to try to organize a foreign missionary society while Ireland is in the throes of a World War," was the warning which met Fr. Edward Galvin, just returned to Ireland after four years work in China. He and Fr.
For 100 years the Missionary Society of St. Columban has faithfully taken God's message of hope and salvation to the poor and oppressed in faraway countries. During this time, Columban benefactors have made building God's Kingdom her on earth possible thour their steadfast prayers and support.
O Lord Jesus, I adore you,
Son of Mary, my Savior and my Brother,
for You are God.
I follow You in my thoughts,
O first-fruits of our race,
as I hope one day by Your grace
to follow You in my person into heavenly glory.
Until then, do not let me neglect
the earthly task which You have given me.
Let me labour diligently all my life
O Triune Divinity,
I will believe whatever You want me to believe,
go wherever you want me to go,
do whatever you want me to do,
all for the love of You
so that I might always listen to the Father,
love with the Son
and live in the Sanctifier.
Amen.
My Lord Jesus Christ,
who for the love you bear us,
remain night and day in this Sacrament,
full of compassion and of love,
awaiting, calling and welcoming
all who come to visit you.
I believe that you are present
in the Sacrament of the Altar.
I adore you from the abyss of my nothingness
and I thank you for all the graces
My dear Savior,
I unite all my affections with the affections
of your most loving Heart,
and I offer them with you to your Eternal Father
and beg him for your sake
and for love of you,
graciously to accept and grant them.
My Jesus, I love you with my heart.
I grieve for having until now so many times
offended your infinite goodness.
I purpose by your grace never more to offend you
for the time to come; and now, miserable and unworthy though I am,
I consecrate myself to you without reserve,
I give you and renounce my entire will.
